Meet BRYMO, Africa’s Best Song Writer of the Year 2014 (AFRIMA Awards)

Olawale Ashimi Aka Brymo wasn’t born in a wealthy family but with his great voice and talent for music, he is listed (AFRIMA Awards 2014) as one of Nigeria and Africa’s most successful artist.

He was born in 1986, the son of a carpenter father and a petty trading mother. At the age of 14 he wrote his first song and was so pleased with the results that he decided to pursue a career as musician. He formed a band together with three friends in the year 2002 but went solo after the band broke up three years later.

Not signed to any record label, he sought out the assistance of a local talent spotter, who helped him record his debut album entitled Brymstone with Bujoc Records. In 2008 Brymo released a single entitled “Shawdy” along with a music video which peaked at number two on the MTV Base Africa top 10 countdown.The song peaked at number one on the Nigezee top 10. It was nominated for the Soundcity Music Video Awards. Top label Chocolate came in contact with Brymo with whom he released an album called the son of a carpenter before leaving the label in 2013. He has been very successful both internationally as well as at home in Nigeria. On 30th October, 2014 Brymo released his forth studio album (his 2nd Independent album). The album hit the Number 1 spot on iTunes Nigeria Chat in less than 16 Hours of release. He was crowned last year as the best songwriter at the All African Music Award (AFRIMA).
